The Art of Naming

Welcome to our annual list of unisex names. This is where we analyze the gender ratios of each name. Some of these may not truly classify as a true "unisex name" because they will swing very heavily to one side or the other. I chose to include some names like that because it is worth mentioning, especially if it ranked at 3% last year and now ranks at 5%. That means the name is beginning to gain more popularity for the minority gender. Over time, it could continue to change and become more of a 20/80 thing and perhaps later a 40/60 thing. Wouldn't you like to be able to guess these things in advance if its a name you're pondering for a future child? There have been many cases where a name was traditionally male and it was then slowly taken over by the girls. Some of those formerly male names are now considered completely female. Names evolve. Old Hollywood is sometimes referred to as the golden age. It ranged from about 1927 to the early 1960s. In regards to cinema in particular, Hollywood had its own very specific style that produced some of the greatest films ever! True classics! There was such a glamorous vibe in those days that is still admired even today. The celebrities of that time are well known for their elegance, style, poise and even their amazing names! There are many baby-blogs and celebrity-blogs and just general news sites that love to nitpick the monikers chosen by celebrities. The most obvious recent example is Kimye's baby North West. It basically "went viral" and everyone was talking about it. Unfortunately, due to its "punny" nature, most of the talk wasn't on the up-and-up. Contrary to popular belief and stereotypes, many celebrities actually choose normal and lovely names. However, those are the ones that tend to get overlooked. As a media-driven society, we only remember the odd ones that fuel jokes on talk-shows.
